Master of Science (M.Sc.)

The course of study for M.Sc. degree in Botany will be taught and the examinations will be taken over one academic year separated into two semesters namely 1st semester (July – December) and 2nd semester (January – June). The course of study will be guided and assessed by the credit system. Duration of each semester will be six months. Time distribution of each semester will be as follows.

Class room teaching                                                      : 13 weeks.

Preparatory leave for semester final examination         :   2 weeks

Duration of semester final examination                        :   4 weeks

Result preparation                                                         :   7 weeks

There will be 12 courses (8 theoretical, 2 practical cources /2 Research proposal preparation and Dissertation/Thesis, 1 paper presentation and 1 viva-voce), carrying a total of 36 credits (8 credits for practical), 630 credit hours and 1100 marks will be compulsory for each student. There will be two groups in the M.Sc. class viz. General Group and Thesis Group. Thesis discipline will be distributed to the students by the academic committee.

In 1st semester there will be Four theoretical and One practical course (for General group), or Research proposal preparation (for Thesis group) carrying 16 credits (1100 marks). Duration of final examination of each theoretical course will be 3 hours and of each practical course will be 6 hours. Course wise credits and marks distribution are shown below:

In 2nd semester, there will be two branches viz. Branch-I and Branch-II. The academic committee will distribute the total students into each branch considering their merit position of the last published result and their choices.

For the students of each branch there will be 4 theoretical courses, 1 paper presentation, 1 practical (for General Group)/dissertation (for Thesis Group) and 1 viva-voce courses. Total credits will be 20.
